Jazz in the Park returns Wednesday evenings in April in Riverfront Park

jazzinparkJazz in the Park kicks off its third year in April.  It comes back better than ever through a new partnership with Art Porter Music Education!

Art Porter Music Education, Inc. (APME) continues its mission of keeping the musical legacies of local jazz statesman Art Porter, Sr. and his son, renowned saxophonist Art Porter, Jr. alive with community enrichment opportunities, volunteerism, and the awarding of scholarships. Through music, APME works to enhance education by helping students improve reading, language and mathematical skills. The partnership with the River Market to support Jazz in the Park, a free, family-friendly event featuring jazz in downtown Little Rock, is a natural fit for both organizations.

The concerts will be every Wednesday in April from 6pm to 8pm in the History Pavilion in Riverfront Park.

This year’s lineup features:

  • April 1 – Rodney Block & The Real Music Lovers
  • April 8 – Jazz R Us
  • April 15 – New Era Jazz Project
  • April 22 – Stellar Way
  • April 29 – John Burnette Band

The closest entry point to the History Pavilion is Ottenheimer Drive off of President Clinton Avenue.

In case of rain, the River Market West Pavilion will be the alternate location for the event.

The event is completely free, but no coolers are allowed. Beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Art Porter Music Education, Inc.’s scholarship fund.  Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and there is some seating in the natural stone amphitheater at the History Pavilion.

Things continue tonight from 6pm to 8pm with The Tri-Tones.

The event is completely free, but no coolers are allowed. Beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Sculpture at the River Market. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and there is some seating in the natural stone amphitheater at the History Pavilion.

Jazz in the Park returns with Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers tonight from 6pm to 8pm in Riverfront Park

Things get going tonight from 6pm to 8pm with Rodney Block & the Real Music Lovers.  Block is a Dumas native who has been thriving in the local music scene for the past couple of years. A trumpeter who has been featured and performed in various venues across the region ranging from corporate to social, he has built a niche in the genres of jazz and hip hop. Notable artists he has shared the stage with include Dwele, Jonathan Butler, Dave Hollister, Wynton Marsalis, and Eric Roberson. In 2007, Block’s televised jazz feature, AETN Presents: Front Row with Rodney Block, was nominated for a Regional Emmy.

Dizzy 7 Kick Off Jazz in the Park 2014

jazzinparkJazz in the Park is back in Little Rock for the second season! This year, Jazz in the Park will be split into two sets, the first kicking off in April. Jazz in the Park is a free, family-friendly event featuring jazz in downtown Little Rock.

The Dizzy 7 plays music that ranges from Motown to Big Band, Latin to Dixie. It features a full rhythm section, a three-man horn section, and female and male vocalists. Dizzy 7 is composed of accomplished musicians who love what they do.

Jazz in the Park – Dizzy 7

Dizzy7Logo-Small1Dizzy 7 plays music that ranges from Motown to Big Band, Latin to Dixie. It features a full rhythm section, a three-man horn section, and female and male vocalists. Dizzy 7 is composed of accomplished musicians who love what they do. In addition to playing private parties, fundraisers and weddings, the group performs a monthly gig at Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro.  Joining Dizzy 7 will be vocalist Craig Wilson.

Jazz in the Park takes place Wednesday night in June and July from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. They will take place in the History Pavilion in Riverfront Park (between the Junction Bridge and Peabody Park).

Beer & Wine will be available for sale – to benefit Sculpture at the River Market…so no coolers, please. Free to attend!

 

Jazz in the Park: The Happy Tymes Jazz Band

jazzinparkThe Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau continues Jazz in the Park tonight. The featured musicians are The Happy Tymes Jazz Band.

The Happy Tymes Jazz Band was formed in 1982 and has been entertaining audiences ever since. Based in Little Rock, this New Orleans style Dixieland jazz band has played at jazz festivals all over the country – from Sacramento Calif., to Tampa, Fla. They also play in private clubs, corporate conventions and for private parties throughout the country.

Jazz in the Park takes place Wednesday night in June and July from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. They will take place in the History Pavilion in Riverfront Park (between the Junction Bridge and Peabody Park).

Beer & Wine will be available for sale – to benefit Sculpture at the River Market…so no coolers, please. Free to attend!
