15th season of Movies in the Park starts with THOR: RAGNAROK

Thor Ragnarok poster.jpgSummer nights are the perfect escape from the hot days, especially when the River Market’s outdoor film series returns to the First Security Amphitheater.

This annual event returns for the 15th season on June 5. Every Wednesday at sundown in June and July, family and friends unroll their blankets and unfold their chairs to relax and enjoy award-winning films ranging from animated to action and everything between.

Tonight’s film is THOR: RAGNAROK (PG-13).

In this 2017 release, Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

It stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.

Prior to the screening, from 6pm to 7:30pm (while supplies last), UA Little Rock Downtown is offering free popcorn inside their new facility. Come and grab your free Pop Pop Shoppe popcorn at UA Little Rock Downtown before Movies in the Park!

Families, picnics, and leashed pets are invited to the park to enjoy movies under the stars, but no glass containers. Don’t forget the bug spray! An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18 and an ID is required. Chaperoned youth, sports, church and other groups are welcome! The amphitheater will open an hour before film showings (approx. 7:30) and movies with begin at sundown each week (approx. 8:30).

Ron Howard’s RUSH being shown by LR Film Festival tonight at 7.

LRFF RushTonight you can see Andy Griffith on screen at the Old State House at 5:30.  At 7pm, you can see an opus by Opie as Ron Howard’s recent film Rush is screened by the Little Rock Film Festival at the Ron Robinson Theater.  (If you want to have a Mayberry weekend, you can see Griffith tonight and catch a reprise of Rush on Sunday at 7pm.)

Two-time Academy Award®-winner Ron Howard delivers the exhilarating true story of a legendary rivalry that rocked the world. During the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, two drivers emerged as the best: gifted English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth, The Avengers) and his methodical, brilliant Austrian opponent, Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl, Inglourious Basterds). As they mercilessly clash on and off the Grand Prix racetrack, the two drivers push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there’s no shortcut to victory and no margin for error.

The film reunited Howard with screenwriter Peter Morgan from Frost/Nixon.

Rush is rated R.  Admission is $5 and concessions will be available for $1.

Movies in the Park: THE AVENGERS

AvengersMovies in the Park concludes its 2013 season tonight.  It has been an all-star blockbuster summer.  So what better way to end it than by showing Joss Whedon’s all-star, blockbuster 2012 flick – THE AVENGERS.  The heroes will start saving the world tonight at dusk, so bring a picnic supper tonight to Riverfront Park and enjoy.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlette Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow. It also features the talents of Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgard, Paul Bettany and Alexis Denisof.  Also appearing in the film are Powers Boothe, Jenny Agutter, Harry Dean Stanton, Stan Lee, Thomas Roberts and Lou Ferrigno.

The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Visual Effects.

Movies in the Park is a free outdoor movie series in Little Rock’s River Market. They take place at the First Security Amphitheatre. The mission of Movies in the Park is help foster a sense of community and enjoyment in downtown Little Rock and throughout Central Arkansas by bringing people together to enjoy a movie in a unique setting along the scenic banks of the Arkansas River.

The movie will start tonight at dark. Visitors are welcome to bring picnics but please no glass containers and pick up afterwards. Those choosing not to bring their own picnic,  Riverfront Park does have concessions available for sale.

Bring bug spray, picnic and family and have a good time!
