Six Weeks of STAR WARS continues at Ron Robinson Theater tonight with STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith PosterFor six weeks this summer, the Central Arkansas Library System is showing the first six episodes of the STAR WARS saga on Thursday evenings at the Ron Robinson Theater.  They are being shown in episode order, not release order, or any of the other orders dreamed up by fans.

Tonight is Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith

In this 2005 film, three years after the onset of the Clone Wars, the noble Jedi Knights have been leading a massive clone army into a galaxy-wide battle against the Separatists. When the sinister Sith unveil a thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy, the Republic crumbles and from its ashes rises the evil Galactic Empire. Jedi hero Anakin Skywalker is seduced by the dark side of the Force to become the Emperor’s new apprentice – Darth Vader.

The Jedi are decimated, as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yoda are forced into hiding. The only hope for the galaxy are Anakin’s own offspring – the twin children born in secrecy who will grow up to become Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa.

The cast includes Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee, Frank Oz, Ian McDiarmid, Jimmy Smits, Anthony Daniels, and Hayden Christensen.  It was again directed by George Lucas. The film was nominated for one Oscar: Best Makeup.

The screening starts tonight, July 25, at 7pm. Admission is $5.00.

In this 2002 film, ten years after initially meeting, Anakin Skywalker shares a forbidden romance with Padmé Amidala, while Obi-Wan Kenobi investigates an assassination attempt on the senator and discovers a secret clone army crafted for the Jedi.

The cast includes Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee, Frank Oz, Ian McDiarmid, Jimmy Smits, Rose Byrne, and Hayden Christensen.  It was again directed by George Lucas. The film was nominated for one Oscar: Best Visual Effects.

The screening starts tonight, July 18, at 7pm. Admission is $5.00.

Ron Robinson Silver on Silver film: PULP FICTION

Pulp Fiction PosterLast week John Travolta from the 1970s was on the CALS Ron Robinson screen.  This week, a 1990s version of Travolta takes the screen.

Twenty-five years ago, PULP FICTION was released. In honor of its silver anniversary, the CALS Ron Robinson Theatre is showing the movie tonight.  The lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster’s wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.

The film starred Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Frank Whaley, Ving Rhames, Eric Stoltz, and Rosanna Arquette.

The movie was nominated for eight Oscars and took home the statue for Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary).

The showing starts at 6:30.  Admission is $5.00.

Movies in the Park: THE AVENGERS

AvengersMovies in the Park concludes its 2013 season tonight.  It has been an all-star blockbuster summer.  So what better way to end it than by showing Joss Whedon’s all-star, blockbuster 2012 flick – THE AVENGERS.  The heroes will start saving the world tonight at dusk, so bring a picnic supper tonight to Riverfront Park and enjoy.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlette Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow. It also features the talents of Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgard, Paul Bettany and Alexis Denisof.  Also appearing in the film are Powers Boothe, Jenny Agutter, Harry Dean Stanton, Stan Lee, Thomas Roberts and Lou Ferrigno.

The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Visual Effects.

Movies in the Park is a free outdoor movie series in Little Rock’s River Market. They take place at the First Security Amphitheatre. The mission of Movies in the Park is help foster a sense of community and enjoyment in downtown Little Rock and throughout Central Arkansas by bringing people together to enjoy a movie in a unique setting along the scenic banks of the Arkansas River.

The movie will start tonight at dark. Visitors are welcome to bring picnics but please no glass containers and pick up afterwards. Those choosing not to bring their own picnic,  Riverfront Park does have concessions available for sale.

Bring bug spray, picnic and family and have a good time!

The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau Technical Services department provides all the equipment for the movies.
