Little Rock Film Fest – Final Day

The final day of the 2012 Little Rock Film Fest starts with a flash back to the 80s as Some Kind of Wonderful is screened with actor Lea Thompson in the audience.  At 3:20 on Sunday afternoon Thompson will participate in a discussion of Women in Film.

The Closing Night Film is Stella Days which will be screened at 8:30pm at Riverdale Cinema.

Prior to Stella Days will be the Arkansas Times Closing Night Awards Gala at the Clinton Presidential Center.  After the closing film, a Wrap Party will be held at Crush Wine Bar.

Jeff Nichols, who will be one of the honorees at the gala will participate in a conversation earlier in the day.

Films screened on the sixth and final day of the LRFF with filmmakers present include A Sister’s Call; Eating Alabama; Leave Me Like You Found Me; The Gleaning; Tchoupitoulas; First Winter; Think of Me; Wolf; The List; Conlon Nancarrow: Virtuoso of the Player Piano; Running the Distance;  and Go the Distance: Helping End Homelessness. Other films screened include Town of Runners and The Dynamiter.

Several series of shorts will be shown.  Best of the Little Rock 48 Hour Film Project, and LRFFYOUTH! Shorts will both be screened with filmmakers present.

The Ark Shorts screened on the final day are (in the Road Most Traveled grouping) “Tree,” “John Wayne’s Bed,” “The Proposal,” and “StillLife.”  Filmmakers will be present for these as well.

The World Shorts which will be screened are (in the Let’s Talk About It grouping) “Crossing,” “Lost Night,” “Contra el Mar,” and “The Sea Is All I Know”; (in the Closing In grouping) “The Carnival Is on Fire,” “Infinity,” “Abigale,” “Homecoming,” “The Darkness Is Close Behind”. Filmmakers will be present at the screenings.

The Central Arkansas Library System is playing host to a Family Day of family friendly films on Sunday afternoon.

Little Rock Film Fest – Day 5

Films and fun punctuate the fifth day of the LRFF.

The day will kick off for filmmakers with a brunch at The House and conclude with the Oxford American’s Best of the South Soiree at the Oxford American headquarters on South Main.

Films screened today with filmmakers in attendance include Clean Lines, Open Spaces; The Mayor; Supporting Characters; Pilgrim Song; Europa; High Tech, Low Life; Leave Me Like You Found Me; On Down the Line; The Dynamiter; Future Weather; Wolf; The Trouble with Truth; I Am Not a Hipster; Think of Me; Tchoupitoulas; Bay of All Saints; Gimme the Loot and The Gleaning.

Other films screened today are Journey to Planet X; Planet X: Part II – The Frozen Moon; Booster; Once in a Lullaby: The PS22 Chorus Story and I’m from Arkansas.

The Arkansas Shorts which will be screened are (in the Tricks and Treasures grouping) “The Man in the Moon,” “The Birthday Present,” “Chutes and Gates,” “The Bloodstone Diaries, Thief of All Things,” and “Good Guys vs. Bad Guys”;  (in the Warm-Blooded Cold-Hearted grouping) “Shattered,” “Cain and Abel,” “Greed,” “Children of the Mother Beaver,” “Fowl,” “Cold Tracker,” and “Ruthless.” Filmmakers will be present at the screenings.

The World Shorts which will be screened are (in the In the End Let’s Feel Good grouping) “Busted Walk,” “Die Beobachtung,” “Happy Voodoo,” “Chin Up,” “The Assignment”; (in the True to Life grouping) “Mr. Christmas,” “Idle Hour,” “This Is Our House,” and “Beneath the White City Lights”; and (in the Let’s Talk About It grouping) “Crossing,” “Lost Night,” “Contra el Mar,” and “The Sea Is All I Know.” Filmmakers will be present at the screenings.

The day will also feature a conversation with photographer Brent Stirton and a discussion on crowdsourcing independent film.

Little Rock Film Fest Day 4

June busts out all over as the Little Rock Film Fest programming runs for over 12 hours on Day 4.

The films screened today with filmmakers present will be The Trouble with Truth; Conlon Nancarrow: Virtuoso of the Player Piano; Running the Distance; Go the Distance: Helping End Homelessness; A Sister’s Call; Gimme the Loot; I Am Not a Hipster; Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock; Clean Lines, Open Spaces; First Winter; The List; Supporting Characters; and On Down the Line.

Also screening today are In My Mother’s Arms; Bookers Place: A Mississippi Story; Teddy Bear; The Eyes of Thailand; The World Before Her; Once in a Lullaby; The PS22 Chorus Story; Bay of All Saints; Eating Alabama; Beasts of the Southern Wild; Andrew Bird: Fever Year; and Town of Runners.

The World Shorts which will be screened are (in the Other Worldly grouping) “Golden Ears,” “Man in Fear,” “HWY,” “Animeditation,” “Bunker 731,” “The God Phone”; (in the True to Life grouping) “Mr. Christmas,” “Idle Hour,” “This Is Our House,” and “Beneath the White City Lights.” Filmmakers will be present.

2012 Little Rock Film Fest Day 3

Day three of the Little Rock film fest starts at 2:10pm with The World Before Her screening at Riverdale and concludes with the Afterparty at the Peabody Hotel which starts at 10:30pm.

In between the following films will be screened, most at Riverdale: Teddy Bear; Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story; Andrew Bird: Fever Year; In My Mother’s Arms; High Tech, Low Life; Booster; and Beast of the Southern Wild.

Also being shown, and with filmmakers in attendance will be: America’s Parking Lot; Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock; Pilgrim Song; My Dog Skip; Future Weather; The Mayor; Journey to Planet X; Planet X: Part II – The Frozen Moon; and It’s in the Blood.

The Little Rock Film Fest features short films as well as features.  Many of these filmmakers will be in attendance at the screenings.

The Little Rock Film Fest continues on day two with programming at two Little Rock cultural institutions.

At 4pm Little Rock Zoo hosts a zoo keeper chat about elephants. This will be followed at 4:30pm by the documentary The Eyes of Thailand.

At the Riverdale cinemas the first two films will be shown this evening: at 7pm, Richard Linlater’s Bernie will be shown while Daryl Wein’s Lola Versus will start at 7:30.

The Arkansas Arts Center plays host to a reception honoring filmmaker Jay Russell, an Arkansas native. Following the 7:30 reception, Philip Martin will moderate a discussion with Russell at 8pmThe program will also feature clips from some of Russell’s movies. Beginning at 9:15, the Arkansas Arts Center will host a Garden and Gallery party for filmmakers, Gold and Silver pass holders.

2012 Little Rock Film Fest Day 1

20120528-164836.jpgThe 2013 Little Rock Film Festival kicks off tonight with the screening of the documentary, America’s Parking Lot.

Here is the LRFF description:

Pull up a front row seat with Tiger and Cy, two die-hard fans of ‘America’s Team’, as they scramble to preserve their place in AMERICA’S PARKING LOT. When the Dallas Cowboys move to the first stadium built for a billion dollars, the shifting politics and economics of major league sports threaten to dissolve friendships and traditions, and force Tiger and Cy to make the costly choice to follow their beloved team

The film will be shown at 7pm at the Argenta Community Theatre. At 6pm, Gold Pass holders can attend a special reception on site. Following the film at 9pm, a tailgate party will take place outside. Montgomery Trucking will provide musical entertainment while guests eat food provided by Whole Hog and Ben E. Keith.

Adventures in Art of Filmmaking on Petit Jean – March 8-11

The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute will host its first film forum called “Adventures in the Art of Filmmaking.’

The forum will be held March 8-11 at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. It’s open to everyone, from film professionals, students, to enthusiasts.

The forum will bring together a long list of actors, directors, producers, screenwriters, and acting coaches including Robert Walden (Happily Divorced, “Lou Grant”), Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, “Caroline in the City”), director Howard Deutch (Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful), director and teacher Joan Darling (Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman; M*A*S*H; Mary Tyler Moore Show); acting coach and teacher Sandra Seacat; screenwriter Bill Svanoe (Six Million Dollar Man); Oscar-winning producer, Fred Roos (The Godfather Part II, Apocalypse Now), and documentarian Craig Renaud (On the Front Lines of Film Journalism), who founded The Little Rock Film Festival.

Those interested in taking part in “Adventures in Filmmaking” have four different pricing options. A full package with lodging for $750 (single occupancy) or $650 (double occupancy); full package without lodging for $450; a university student package (a current student identification is required) with lodging for $500 or without lodging for $250; and, a la carte tickets for each Show Barn Panel Discussions for $35.
