Movies in the Park – THE NOTEBOOK

MoviesintheParkMovies in the Park continues tonight.  This week’s film is the 2004 film The Notebook. It is the second Ryan Gosling movie in as many weeks for Movies in the Park.

Joining Gosling in the cast are James Garner, Gena Rowlands and Rachel McAdams in starring roles.  Others in the cast include Sam Shepard, Joan Allen, Starletta DuPois, James Marsden, Jamie Brown, David Thornton, Kevin Connolly, Heather Wahlquist, Ed Grady and Obba Babatunde.

The film was directed by Nick Cassavetes, son of Rowlands.

Movies in the Park – REMEMBER THE TITANS

1368478223-movies_in_the_parkDon’t forget that Movies in the Park continues tonight.  The featured film is the 2000 football film Remember the Titans.  Based on a true story, it stars Denzel Washington as a coach charged with leading a newly integrated football team in 1971 outside of Washington DC.

Joining Washington in the cast are Ryan Gosling, Hayden Panettiere, Kip Pardue, Donald Faison, Kate Bosworth, Will Patton, Wood Harris, Ryan Hurst, Craig Kirkwood, Nicole Ari Parker, Earl Poitier, and Burgess Jenkins

Movies in the Park – Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1

1368478223-movies_in_the_parkFor a movie series that starts at twilight, it is appropriate that Movies in the Park kicks off the 2013 season tonight in Riverfront Park with the 2011 hit film Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The fourth in the vampire/werwolf saga, it is directed by Bill Condon.

The film stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Anna Kendrick, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Billy Burke, Ashley Greene, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser and Nikki Reed.

Movies in the Park – Summer 2013 Lineup

pathThe Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced the 2013 Movies in the Park season.

Things kicks off on June 12 with Twilight Breaking Dawn (PG 13).

Other movies include:
• June 19: Remember the Titans (PG)
• June 26: The Notebook (PG 13)
• July 3: The Dark Knight Rises (PG 13)
• July 10: Zookeeper (PG)
• July 17: Big (PG)
• July 24: Finding Nemo (G)
• July 31: Breakfast at Tiffany’s (G)
• August 7: The Avengers (PG 13)

The films take place at First Security Amphitheatre in Riverfront Park along the banks of the Arkansas River near La Petite Roche, Little Rock’s namesake.

Families, picnics and pets are invited to the park to enjoy movies under the stars. The amphitheater will open an hour before film showings and movies will start at sundown each week.

Fright Night Movies in the Park tonight

In the spirit of Halloween, Movies in the Park will host a special “Fright Night,” screening two spook-tacular films for a howling good time on Halloween night. It will take place in Riverfront Park by the Riverfest Amphitheatre.

The evening will kick off at 6:30pm with Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 classic The Birds. This classic about an unexplained visit from thousands of avians stars Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette and Jessica Tandy.  It is based on a short-story by Daphne DuMaurier.

Following an intermission, the 2002 film The Ring will be shown.  It stars Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, David Dorfman, Brian Cox, Jane Alexander and Amber Tamblyn.

Families, picnics and pets are invited to the park to enjoy movies under the harvest moon. The amphitheater will open an hour before film showings and movies will start at sundown. Alcohol is allowed, but no glass is allowed for any beverages or foods.

Movies in the Park: ANNIE

“Let’s Go to the Movies” is a song from the family film Annie which will close out the 2012 Movies in the Park season.

Albert Finney, Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters, Ann Reinking, Tim Curry, Edward Herrmann and Geoffrey Holder star in this adaptation of the Broadway show. Newcomer Aileen Quinn stars in the title role.  John Huston directed the 1982 film which featured several songs written especially for the movie — but did not drop the anthem “Tomorrow.”

Movies in the Park tonight: CADDYSHACK

A sure sign of summer — duffers with their mashies and niblicks — in other words GOLF.  The quintessential golf movie Caddyshack is on tap tonight at Movies in the Park.

Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight star in this 1980 movie. (The movie is as funny today as it was 32 years ago.)  The cast also includes Michael O’Keefe, Brian Doyle-Murray, Sarah Holcomb, Scott Colomby, Cindy Morgan and everyone’s favorite motorized gopher.  Harold Ramis directed this romp around the golf course.
