Who you gonna call? Thanks to the Central Arkansas Library System, the answer is Ghostbusters!

At 7pm tonight, this 1984 action comedy thriller is being shown on the CALS Ron Robinson Theater screen.

Directed and produced by Ivan Reitman, it was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The film stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis as three eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business. Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis co-star as a client and her neighbor. Others in the cast include Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, William Atherton, Alice Drummond and Reginald VelJohnson.

The movie was nominated for two Oscars: Best Visual Effects and Best Song.

Doors open at 6pm.  Wine, beer, and concessions are available for sale.  Tickets cost $5.

FANTASTIC MR FOX today at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater

Fantastic_mr_foxToday at 2pm at the Ron Robinson Theatre, the animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox will be shown on the big screen. Admission is $5.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a 2009 American stop-motion animated film based on the Roald Dahl novel. The film is about a fox who steals food each night from three mean and wealthy farmers. They are fed up with Mr. Fox’s theft and try to kill him, so they dig their way into the foxes’ home, but the animals are able to outwit the farmers and live underground.

Development on the film started in 2004, but it was released in autumn 2009.  It features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, Owen Wilson and Adrien Brody.  The film’s director, Wes Anderson, also voiced one of the characters.  This was Anderson’s first animated film.

The film was nominated for two Oscars: Best Animated Film and Best Original Score (Alexandre Desplat).

 

GROUNDHOG DAY on Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day (1993) movie poster                      Cinemark Theatres is offering the chance to see 1993’s GROUNDHOG DAY on Groundhog Day. And since it starts at 2pm, it will be concluded in time for kickoff to see the Denver Broncos celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse by downing the Seattle Seahawks.

The showing is part of a series which Cinemark is offering in January and February where they screen classic movies from the 1980s and 1990s on the big screen on Sunday afternoons and Wednesdays (the film will be repeated on February 5 at 2pm and 7pm).

This 1993 comedy from director Harold Ramis offers Bill Murray as a meteorologist trapped in Punxsutawney PA by snow and by the fact that he keeps repeating the day over and over and over. It also stars Andie McDowell, Chris Elliott, Stephen Tobolowsky, Brian Doyle-Murray and Marita Geraghty. Willie Garson and Michael Shannon are also seen briefly in the movie.

The film will be shown at Cinemark’s Colonel Glenn location (formerly the Rave).  Tickets are $7.50 for the screening today.

Movies in the Park tonight: CADDYSHACK

A sure sign of summer — duffers with their mashies and niblicks — in other words GOLF.  The quintessential golf movie Caddyshack is on tap tonight at Movies in the Park.

Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight star in this 1980 movie. (The movie is as funny today as it was 32 years ago.)  The cast also includes Michael O’Keefe, Brian Doyle-Murray, Sarah Holcomb, Scott Colomby, Cindy Morgan and everyone’s favorite motorized gopher.  Harold Ramis directed this romp around the golf course.

Movies in the Park is a free outdoor movie series in Little Rock’s River Market. The mission of Movies in the Park is help foster a sense of community and enjoyment in downtown Little Rock and throughout Central Arkansas by bringing people together to enjoy a movie in a unique setting along the scenic banks of the Arkansas River.

Movies start at dark.You’re welcome to bring picnics but please no glass containers and pick up afterwards. If you choose not to bring your own picnic we do have concessions available for sale. Bring your bug spray, picnic and family and have a good time!

The park opens at 6:30 pm.

The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau Technical Services department provides all the equipment for the movies.
