Why is the floor wet, Margo? Find out when CALS Ron Robinson Theater shows CHRISTMAS VACATION tonight

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989, PG-13)The comic misadventures of the beleaguered Griswold family continue in the third and most successful entry in the Vacation film series. (Plus it features the song stylings of the one and only Mavis Staples.)  All the fun is on the big screen at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater tonight.

This time America’s most dedicated dad, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), is determined to stay at home to create “the most fun-filled old fashioned family Christmas ever” — but life has a particular way of throwing wet logs on the Griswold family fire.

Joining Chase in this holiday romp are Beverly D’Angelo, Randy Quaid, and Miriam Flynn from the previous Vacation movies. Juliette Lewis and Johnny Galecki take their part in the revolving door of actors playing the Griswold kids.  New to the family in this edition are E. G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, John Randolph and Diane Ladd playing Ellen’s and Clark’s parents. Film veterans William Hickey and Mae Questel lend their talents as other relatives. Nicholas Guest and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are the annoyed neighbors next door while Brian Doyle-Murray plays Clark’s boss who would give Scrooge a run for his money.

Fun fact: Chris Columbus started working on HOME ALONE after he left this project because he could not get along with Chase.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Film starts at 7:00 p.m. Beer, wine, and concessions will be available!

Baby Gibbon Born at Little Rock Zoo

The Little Rock Zoo is proud to announce that a healthy female gibbon infant was born October 31, 2019.  The proud parents are mother, Paddy, and father, Jeepers.  The pair have had three offspring together and have been together since 2004.

The baby can be seen at the gibbon habitat with her family in the mornings, weather permitting. Mother Paddy carries the baby with her while she’s outside but does often shield the baby from public view by turning her back.

The birth comes at the recommendation of the Gibbon Species Survival Plan® (SSP), a program that oversees breeding, transfers, and animal management for gibbons in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited and partner institutions in North America.  Developed to protect gibbons, this SSP Program coordinates species conservation, research, husbandry, management and educational initiatives.

Native to South East Asia, Hylobates lar gibbons are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), meaning there is a very high risk of their extinction in the wild.  Their vulnerability is primarily due to degradation or loss of their forest habitat. Though the number of Hylobates lar gibbons left in the wild is unknown, the Little Rock Zoo works diligently to continue to protect this special animal through expert conservation practices and participation in the Gibbon Species Survival Plan.

Happy Birthday to Pulaski County – 201 Years Old

On December 15, 1818, the Territory of Missouri created Pulaski County.  The same day, Clark and Hempstead Counties were also created.

The original Pulaski County includes both the present day entity bearing that name as well as all or part of Crawford County and Conway County (both created in 1820), Jefferson County (created in 1829), Scott County (created in 1833), White County (created in 1835), Saline County (created in 1835), Prairie County (created in 1846), Faulkner County (created in 1873), and Lonoke County (created in 1873).  Today, Pulaski County comprises 771 square miles.

The first County government met on May 24, 1819. It met at the home of Samuel McHenry, the first Pulaski County Judge.

Fourteen years after creating a Pulaski County in what is now Arkansas, the State of Missouri created its own Pulaski County.
