Tonight – Science After Dark explores Arkansas Weather

science weatherEach month the Museum of Discovery hosts “Science after Dark” for adults aged 21 and up.  This month’s theme is “Science of Weather.”

  • Museum educators will also discuss lightening with the Van de Graaff Generator, clouds, fire tornadoes
  • Kevin Delaney will make a giant liquid nitrogen cloud!

Cash bar by Juanita’s, beer sold by Stone’s Throw Brewery and pizza sold by the slice by Damgoode Pies

The program runs from 6pm to 9pm. Cost is $5, FREE for museum members. (Go ahead and get a membership, it will more than pay for itself within a year!)

Science of the Heart at Museum of Discovery’s Science After Dark tonight

Each month the Museum of Discovery hosts “Science after Dark” for adults aged 21 and up.  This month’s theme is “Science of the Heart.”

Here’s what you can expect at this month’s Science After Dark:

-Heart healthy diets with Whole Foods (Science After Dark’s new presenting sponsor)

-CPR with American Heart Association

-Chocolate and the heart with Kilwins (and samples)

 

-The heart and blood with American Red Cross

-Heart dissections with museum staff

 

-The benefits of wine

-Heart research advances with Children’s Nutrition Institution

Science of Dance and Movement tonight at Museum of Discovery, featuring Ballet Arkansas

science of danceScience After Dark: The Science of Dance and Movement takes place tonight! The Museum has partnered with Ballet Arkansas and ACANSA Arts Festival to bring you some great moves, including demonstrations by Ballet Arkansas dancers.

They will also explore how nanotechnology is changing dance, learn about locomotion and much more! The regular Science After Dark refreshment friends from Damgoode Pies, Stone’s Throw Brewing and Juanita’s Cantina will all be there too!

The event takes place at the Museum of Discovery tonight from 6-8 p.m.

These monthly programs (normally the last Wednesday of the month) are for adults 21 and up.

Passholders for ACANSA are admitted for free.  Museum of Discovery members receive free admission too.  For those who are neither members nor ACANSA passholders, the cost is only $5.00.

Science of Good and Bad Habits is focus of January Science after Dark

scienceafterdarkThe Museum of Discovery’s monthly adults-only Science After Dark explores “The Science of Good and Bad Habits ” this month.

The new year often brings a resolve to try new things or break harmful practices. This month the event explores the science behind habits.  There will be junk food experiments, demonstrations about nicotine, recycling and much more!

Damgoode Pies will sell pizza by the slice and Juanita’s will provide a cash bar

Watch this month’s Science After Dark video 

Science after Dark occurs the last Wednesday of each month from 6pm to 8pm. Museum educators pick a science-related topic, and develop an event around it. The event is for ages 21 and older.

It is a great chance to explore the museum’s exhibits and enjoy downtown Little Rock.

November Science After Dark: Science of PI(E)

Usually the Museum of Discovery’s SCIENCE AFTER DARK takes place on the final Wednesday of the month. Because that is Thanksgiving Eve, they have moved it to the final Tuesday in November.
In honor of Thanksgiving, the Museum of Discovery’s monthly adult event, Science After Dark, will focus on the science of pi as well as pie.

  • Enjoy pi-centric math activities as well as a pi-based art project
  • Learn the secret to the perfect pie crust with Rock Town Distillery
  • Get a pie thrown in your face
  • Participate in a pie eating contest
  • Learn about the latest dough recipe from Damgoode Pies
  • Enjoy complimentary pie from local bakeries

Damgoode Pies will sell pizza by the slice and Juanita’s will provide a cash bar
