The ASO River Rhapsodies series continues tonight

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra continues the 2019-2020 River Rhapsodies Chamber Music season with Musical Images, Tuesday, January 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Presidential Center.

ASO’s Quapaw String Quartet, along with other musicians will perform Golijov’s Tenebrae; Kinan Azmeh’s The Fence, the Rooftop, and the Distant Sea; Paul Reade’s Suite from The Victorian Kitchen Garden; and Elgar’s Violin Sonata in E minor, Op. 82. 

River Rhapsodies Chamber Music Concerts are held in the intimate setting of the Clinton Presidential Center’s Great Hall. A cash bar is open before the concert and at intermission, and patrons are invited to carry drinks into the concert. The Media Sponsor for the River Rhapsodies Chamber Music Series is UA Little Rock Public Radio.

General Admission tickets are $26; active duty military and student tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at www.ArkansasSympohny.org; at the Clinton Center beginning 60 minutes prior to a concert; or by phone at 501-666-1761, ext. 1.

Enjoy an Informance by the ASO Quapaw Quartet today at lunchtime

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is inviting you to an Informance today (January 15) at 12 noon.

What is an Informance?  It is a performance + information. (Performation sounded too much like Perforation so they went with the other option.)

Listen to the Quapaw Strings Quartet perform and discuss their music today.  The program contains works by Darius Milhaud, William Grant Still, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Osvaldo Golijov.

Bring your lunch and enjoy it or come lunchless–the choice is up to you.

The program takes place at Byrne Hall, 2417 N. Tyler St. This event is FREE!

No photo description available.The Bookstore at Library Square is proud to present the 2nd Friday Art Night reception for “Circus of Imaginings” by Arkansas artist DebiLynn Fendley at this free monthly event #2FAN

DebiLynn Fendley works within cultural subgroups to produce both documentary and conceptual realism pieces in photography, printmaking, drawing, and painting. As a visual storyteller, she pushes the boundaries between fantasy and reality and strives to make work that crosses boundaries between subgroups and mainstream norms. She is a founding member of and active exhibitor with the Arkansas Society of Printmakers and holds membership in the Southern Graphics Council, Audubon Artists Society, Allied Artists of America, and Professional Photographers of America.

She has been published in multiple national publications on photography, printmaking, and painting, including works from North Light Books, and recently completed her first IMBd credit as still photographer on the film Ride Hard, Live Free. This show can be viewed Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm until it’s closing February 6th, 2020.

In addition, members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s Quapaw String Quartet will be hosting an instrument petting zoo in the Bookstore at Library Square during the 2nd Friday Art Night festivities. Come play with an instrument and meet a musician leading up to the ASO’s January Masterworks concert!

Join the Bookstore at Library Square on the 2nd Friday of every month for 2FAN (2nd Friday Art Night) a free downtown art gallery walkabout in the River Market District from 5-8pm with light refreshments, art show, and bookstore shopping.

The ASO River Rhapsodies tonight features Artist of Distinction: Andrew von Oeyen

Andrew von Oeyen, pianoThe Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Philip Mann, Music Director and Conductor, presents the third concert of the 2018-2019 River Rhapsodies Chamber Music season with Artist of Distinction: Andrew von Oeyen, Tuesday, Jan. 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Presidential Center. The program opens with Haydn’s String Quartet, Op. 20, No. 4, featuring ASO’s Quapaw String Quartet. Von Oeyen then performs a solo rendition of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, and the concert closes with the pianist joining ASO’s Rockefeller String Quartet and Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor.

The Richard Sheppard Arnold Artist of Distinction is a musician with an exemplary international career as a soloist and chamber musician, widely sought after by leading performing arts organizations.

Free ASO quartet concert at Capital Hotel this evening

ASO at CHMusicians from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will be performing this evening in the lobby of the historic Capital Hotel. The music will start at 5:15 pm.

In 2011, the ASO started these free concerts in the lobby of the Capital Hotel.  The marble and tile of this historic lobby provide a wonderful acoustic backdrop for the musicians.

The concert will feature the Quapaw Quartet.  Members of the quartet will introduce the pieces to be performed.

Unlike concerts in music halls, guests here are encouraged to bring drinks to their seats or to stand and move around while the musicians are playing.  It is a relaxed, informal atmosphere where the audience and musicians alike are able to interact with each other.
