The Science of Paleontology at tonight’s Museum of Discovery “Science After Dark”

0315 science after darkEach month the Museum of Discovery hosts “Science after Dark” for adults aged 21 and up.  This month’s theme is “Science of Paleontology.”

Adults may not get spring break, but tonight is a chance to feel like a student again by learning fun facts about dinosaurs and fossils. And this time, you can learn about science while drinking a beer!

Here’s what you can expect at tonight’s month’s Science After Dark:

  • Dr. Joe Daniel will answer fossil questions
  • The museum’s new dinosaur exhibit will be highlighted
  • A lot of fun exploring the museum and it’s interactive exhibits

Beer sold by Stone’s Throw Brewery and the aptly named Fossil Cove brewing; pizza by the slice sold by new MOD neighbor Damgoode Pies.

The program runs from 6pm to 9pm. Cost is $5, FREE for museum members. (Go ahead and get a membership, it will more than pay for itself within a year!)

Science of the Heart at Museum of Discovery’s Science After Dark tonight

Each month the Museum of Discovery hosts “Science after Dark” for adults aged 21 and up.  This month’s theme is “Science of the Heart.”

Here’s what you can expect at this month’s Science After Dark:

-CPR with American Heart Association

-Chocolate and the heart with Kilwins (and samples)

 

-The heart and blood with American Red Cross

-Heart dissections with museum staff

 

-The benefits of wine

-Heart research advances with Children’s Nutrition Institution

Science of Mixology at this month’s Museum of Discovery Science After Dark

MuseumMixologysmEach month, the Museum of Discovery stays open late for an event geared for adults.  Science After Dark, held the last Thursday of the month, is for the grown-ups. Why? Because, science is fun…at any age!  

The event takes place from 6pm to 9pm tonight at the Museum of Discovery.

Science After Dark provides visitors the opportunity to have fun and learn about science in a unique setting. Museum educators pick a science-related topic and build an entertaining, interactive evening around it. You never know what will sprout, pop, fizzle, or glow. We invite you to discover the science of having fun.

This month, just in time for Super Bowl and Oscar parties – Explore the science of cocktails and mixology at the first Science After Dark of the year!

This month’s Science After Dark will include mixology with Louis Uzcategui of Big Orange Midtown, molecular mixology with Chef Stephen Burrow of  Forty Two, distilling with Rock Town Distillery, the history of prohibition with Old State House Museum, density columns and more!

Science of The Paranormal tonight at Museum of Discovery’s Science After Dark

arkmod sci 1014Tonight at the Museum of Discovery from 6pm to 8pm, it is the monthly Science After Dark feature for adults.  This month explores the Science of The Paranormal.

Among the features are:

  • Arkansas Paranormal Investigations will demonstrate the equipment and techniques they use in their field.
  • Hack-o-lanterns – tinkering with pumpkins
  • Arkansas Ghost Catchers’ Rhonda Burton will explain how she captures the paranormal.
  • Author, mentalist and side show performer Paul Prater will demonstrate and discuss the anatomy of side show performance including “The Human Blockhead.” He’s going to tell exactly how he drives nails into his face.

Don’t forget to wear your Halloween costumes! Remember, this is an adults only event. Admission is $5. Damgoode Pies will sell pizza by the slice, Stone’s Throw Brewing will sell beer and Juanita’s Cantina will sell cocktails.

Science of Dance and Movement tonight at Museum of Discovery, featuring Ballet Arkansas

science of danceScience After Dark: The Science of Dance and Movement takes place tonight! The Museum has partnered with Ballet Arkansas and ACANSA Arts Festival to bring you some great moves, including demonstrations by Ballet Arkansas dancers.

They will also explore how nanotechnology is changing dance, learn about locomotion and much more! The regular Science After Dark refreshment friends from Damgoode Pies, Stone’s Throw Brewing and Juanita’s Cantina will all be there too!

The event takes place at the Museum of Discovery tonight from 6-8 p.m.

These monthly programs (normally the last Wednesday of the month) are for adults 21 and up.

Passholders for ACANSA are admitted for free.  Museum of Discovery members receive free admission too.  For those who are neither members nor ACANSA passholders, the cost is only $5.00.

Lights Camera Action – The Science of Making Movies tonight at the Museum of Discovery’s Science after Dark; for ages 21 and up

The act of capturing images and sound on a thin strip of plastic is the result of a great deal of science over the past 150 years.

Tonight at the Museum of Discovery, it is the monthly Science After Dark feature for adults.  This month explores the Science of Making Movies.  Learn about the science of lights, camera and even action tonight.

The program runs from 6pm to 8pm at the Museum of Discovery. It costs $5, but is free to Museum Members.  If you attend several of these a year as well as visit the museum once or twice, you MORE than make up your membership fee.

(And after you have learned about the science of making movies, you can attend Movies in the Park tonight just outside the museum in Riverfront Park.)
