A Broadway Cabaret tonight on CALS Ron Robinson Theater stage performed by The Muses

The Muses’ Broadway Cabaret in concert is presented tonight at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater.

The performance starts at 7pm.

This “best of” Broadway concert is an impressive display of professional musical artistry, spectacular dancing, and extraordinary showmanship! The Muses Professional Performance Troupe of highly skilled, nationally touring professional vocalists, instrumentalists, and resident artists, will present beloved tunes from popular Broadway shows, including: “Cabaret”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “Hello, Dolly!” “My Fair Lady’, “South Pacific”, “Company”, “Wicked”, and “Rent”.

Driven by a live big band sound, these musical theater classics, are performed in colorful and engaging combinations of solos, duets, and ensembles, along with lovely and energetic dance performances sprinkled throughout the show.

UA Little Rock Downtown is proud to host artists Mariah Hatta, Meagan Davis, and TK Moore-Garrick for June Second Friday Art Night!

Mariah Hatta, a local ceramics artist and owner of House Of Terriers, a creative ceramics company, will have her signature line of ceramic pigs for sale, as well as a number of her other pieces. You can catch a sneak peek of her piggies on the House of Terriers Facebook Page, @HouseofTerriers!

Meagan Davis is a painter who you may recognize from her live paintings at different charity events in the Little Rock area. You can see Meagan’s live paintings and more on her @mdavisdrew Facebook Page.

Movies in the Park features HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 tonight!

Summer nights are the perfect escape from the hot days, especially when the River Market’s outdoor film series returns to the First Security Amphitheater.

Movies in the Park continues its 15th season tonight with HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3. 

Hiccup and Toothless face a new and dangerous foe that is capable of enslaving and controlling dragons. Things take an unexpected turn when a new breed of dragon appears and puts Toothless in a difficult situation.

Special Guests will be the Witt Stephens Jr Central AR Nature Center who will bring their modern dragons (lizard) for a show and tell before the movie!

Prior to the screening, from 6pm to 7:30pm (while supplies last), UA Little Rock Downtown is offering free popcorn inside their new facility. Come and grab your free Pop Pop Shoppe popcorn at UA Little Rock Downtown before Movies in the Park!

Families, picnics, and leashed pets are invited to the park to enjoy movies under the stars, but no glass containers. Don’t forget the bug spray! An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18 and an ID is required. Chaperoned youth, sports, church and other groups are welcome! The amphitheater will open an hour before film showings (approx. 7:30) and movies with begin at sundown each week (approx. 8:30).

15th season of Movies in the Park starts with THOR: RAGNAROK

This annual event returns for the 15th season on June 5. Every Wednesday at sundown in June and July, family and friends unroll their blankets and unfold their chairs to relax and enjoy award-winning films ranging from animated to action and everything between.

Tonight’s film is THOR: RAGNAROK (PG-13).

In this 2017 release, Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

It stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.

The Climate Reality Project is focus of UA Little Rock Downtown talk

“The Climate Reality Project: Need for Change and Reasons for Hope” is the topic of Dr. Jessica Scott’s discussion tonight (3/27) at the UA Little Rock Downtown campus.  The program is free and begins at 6pm.

Must we change? Can we change? Will we change? These three questions will be the focus of Dr. Scott’s presentation on climate change and the work of The Climate Reality Project.

Although climate change is often misunderstood by the public, more than 97 percent of climate scientists agree that it is real and caused by the burning of fossil fuels like oil, coal, and natural gas. Understanding climate change can be overwhelming because our atmosphere, oceans, soil, and weather are driven by a complex network of interconnected factors.

Dr. Scott’s talk, targeted at non-scientists, will not only summarize the evidence for climate change, but will also give an overview of what we know about its impacts and the policy and industry changes that experts predict will be necessary to mitigate these effects.

Dr. Jessica Scott is assistant director of the Donaghey Scholars honors program and anthropology instructor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  She earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Dynamics and M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, and her B.A. in Anthropology and History from UALR.

Deviant Mobs of the Internet – UA Downtown Lecture Series tonight at 6pm

Image result for nitin agarwal ualrCOSMOS director Dr. Nitin Agarwal will be speaking about “Deviant Mobs of the Internet: Bots, Trolls, and Misinformation” on Wednesday, March 13, from 6:00pm – 7:00pm at the UA Little Rock Downtown location. This lecture is free and open to the public. Prior knowledge of the topic is not required.

About the lecture:
Social media platforms are widely used for sharing information. Although social media use is generally benign, such platforms can also be used for a variety of malicious activities, including the dissemination of propaganda, hoaxes, and fake news to influence the public. The availability of inexpensive and ubiquitous mass communication tools has made such malicious acts much more convenient and effective.

This talk will touch upon our various research efforts that demonstrate how disinformation campaigns work, examine the critical link between blogs and other social media platforms (viz., YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, VKontakte, etc.), and the different media orchestration strategies. Using socio-computational models that leverage social network analysis and cyber forensics, prominent information actors and leading coordinators of disinformation campaigns are identified.

Further, the talk will highlight tactics, techniques, and procedures used by the deviant groups to propagate disinformation. The talk will further illustrate application of the research methodology to prominent cases of massive disinformation campaigns in the Baltic region and NATO’s military exercises, conducted primarily through blogs but strategically linking to a variety of other social media platforms.

Nitin Agarwal is the Jerry L. Maulden-Entergy Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Director of the Collaboratorium for Social Media and Online Behavioral Studies (COSMOS). He researches cyber information campaigns, social computing, deviant behavior modeling, group dynamics, social-cyber forensics, data mining, and privacy.
