Learn about Arkansas Rep’s production of WILLY WONKA JR. at noon today at the Clinton School

The new Arkansas Repertory Theatre production of Willy Wonka Jr. will be the focus of a noontime Clinton School program today (June 20).

The scrumdidilyumptious adventures of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory light up the stage this summer at The Rep. Featuring many of the enchanting songs from the 1971 film, generations of candy lovers will delight in this devilishly delicious adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic tale, brought to life by a company of young artists. Grab your golden ticket to see Willy Wonka Jr.!

The Rep’s Director of Education Anna Kimmell says, “We’re thrilled to showcase the amazing talent of our local young artists and offer both performance and training opportunities for generations to come here at The Rep.”

The production runs June 21 to June 30.

ABOUT JON AUER

A critically-acclaimed solo artist, Jon Auer is also the co-founder/singer/songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist of the Posies and was a member of the reformed Big Star for 17 years (until Alex Chilton’s untimely passing in 2010). Auer has toured the world over in support of his much-praised solo release, Songs From The Year Of Our Demise, and his one-man show is entrancing and intimately entertaining, songs and stories side by side.

Auer has produced and/or mixed records for the likes of You Am I, Redd Kross, and Spiral Stairs (of Pavement) and the Sub Pop label and also performed on William Shatner’s Has Been album (produced by Ben Folds).Former Beatle Ringo Starr even covered one of Auer’s compositions (“Golden Blunders”) and Auer’s haunting “Lady Sweet” (sung by Auer) was the lead track from the Big Star record In Space. Auer is prominently featured in the 2017 Big Star movie Thank You Friends: Big Star’s Third Live…and More.

 

ABOUT ISAAC ALEXANDER

Isaac Alexander has been playing, writing, and recording in Little Rock since 1999 and has put out a total of twelve records under various band names—Big Silver, The Easys, Molten Lava, Greers Ferry to name a few. He’s played drums in the legendary Little Rock band, The Boondogs and has played and recorded with a number of local artists, including The Salty Dogs, Brother Andy and His Big Damn Mouth, Cosby, The Big Cats, Jonathan Wilkins, Jesse Aycock, Chris Micheals, and Jim Mize.

The last few years Alexander has been working on solo albums with his friends. He has so far released See Thru Me and Antivenin Suite and is working on a third record presently. See Thru Me was No. 6 on the Arkansas Times Music Poll’s best Arkansas albums list.

Capitol View Studio LLC is located at 120 S. Cross in the West End of downtown Little Rock, AR and is a full production recording studio. Owner, Bryan Frazier, is a working visual artist with a background in art education and music production and is an award-winning singer/songwriter and video producer.

Engineer and producer, Mark Colbert, is the primary audio engineer for Capitol View Studio. Mark is an experienced producer, engineer and professional session drummer. Colbert has spent many years working in professional studios in Los Angeles and has performed and recorded with Grammy award-winning artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Alanis Morissette among many others.

A Broadway Cabaret tonight on CALS Ron Robinson Theater stage performed by The Muses

The Muses’ Broadway Cabaret in concert is presented tonight at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater.

The performance starts at 7pm.

This “best of” Broadway concert is an impressive display of professional musical artistry, spectacular dancing, and extraordinary showmanship! Movies in the Park tonight – DUMB AND DUMBER

Summer nights are the perfect escape from the hot days, especially when the River Market’s outdoor film series returns to the First Security Amphitheater.

Movies in the Park continues its 15th season tonight with DUMB AND DUMBER, now celebrating its 25th anniversary of the original release.

Imbecilic best friends Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) stumble across a suitcase full of money left behind in Harry’s car by Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly), who was on her way to the airport. The pair decide to go to Aspen, Colo., to return the money, unaware that it is connected to a kidnapping. As Harry and Lloyd — who has fallen in love with Mary — are pursued across the country by hired killers and police, they find both their friendship and their brains tested.

The film is directed by Peter Farrelly, who co-wrote the screenplay with Bobby Farrelly and Bennett Yellin.

Families, picnics, and leashed pets are invited to the park to enjoy movies under the stars, but no glass containers. Don’t forget the bug spray! An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18 and an ID is required. Chaperoned youth, sports, church and other groups are welcome! The amphitheater will open an hour before film showings (approx. 7:30) and movies with begin at sundown each week (approx. 8:30).

Help the Museum of Discovery name its two new opposums

A few weeks ago the Museum of Discovery took in two orphaned opossums. While their siblings were able to be rehabilitated and turned back into the wild, these sisters were not.

Because of this, the staff was happy to give them a safe home at the Museum of Discovery. Since they have joined the museum family family they have been thriving and grow more and more each day! Once they are old enough and comfortable with people, they will join the animal ambassador program to help teach about wildlife and conservation.

The Museum recently asked the public to offer name suggestions and received some great ones! Museum staff voted on all of the suggestions and narrowed the list down to four name pairs. Now they need your help to choose the winning names!

The Brain That Wouldn't Die Poster$2 Terror Tuesdays continue tonight (6/18) at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater with 1962’s THE BRAIN THAT WOULD NOT DIE.

The Brain That Wouldn’t Die is a 1962 American science fiction horror film directed by Joseph Green and written by Green and Rex Carlton and focuses upon a mad doctor who develops a means to keep human body parts alive. He keeps his fiancé’s severed head alive for days, and also keeps a lumbering, misshapened brute (one of his earlier failed experiments) imprisoned in a closet.

The film starred Jason Evers (billed as Herb Evers), Virginia Leith, Anthony La Penna, Adele Lamont, Paula Morris, Bruce Brighton, and Lola Mason.

The showing starts at 7pm.  Cost is $2.
