MORE MORE MORE as CALS Ron Robinson Theater shows ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW for 4th time

Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, R)

Do the Time Warp again tonight at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater when The Rocky Horror Picture Show is screened.

The movie starts at 9:30 pm, and it is interactive!

A mixture of fantastical rock opera and horror movie spoof. A couple of ordinary kids – Brad and (Dammit) Janet (I love you) – have car trouble one dark and rainy night and knock on the door of a looming gothic mansion. They are stunned to learn that they have stumbled into an ongoing convention of kinky characters, hosted by Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a mad scientist who is a sweet transvestite from Transylvania.

The movie stars Tony nominee Tim Curry, Tony winner Barry Bostwick and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon along with appearances by Meat Loaf, and Richard O’Brien (who wrote the stage show and co-wrote the movie).

Originally a flop, it became one of the first cult-classic movies which ended up running for years in various cities.  Now is the chance to again see it on the big screen.

Admission is $5. Concessions are available for purchase.

Tonight marks the fourth and final Friday in October that the CALS Ron Robinson Theater has shown the movie.

Run Amok as CALS Ron Robinson Theater shows HOCUS POCUS tonight

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy in Hocus Pocus (1993)Continuing the Halloween-themed movies this month at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater, tonight’s 7pm show is 1993’s Hocus Pocus.

In Disney’s Hocus Pocus, Academy Award nominee Bette Midler stars with Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three wild witches who return from seventeenth-century Salem for a night of zany fun and comic chaos. After they’re conjured up by unsuspecting pranksters, the tricky trio sets out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth.

Midler and Parker would later play rivals for the same man in The First Wives Club.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Film starts at 7:00 p.m. Beer, wine, and concessions will be available.  Cost is $5.

110 years since President Taft visited Little Rock

One hundred and ten years ago today (October 24, 1909), William Howard Taft became the third sitting president to visit Little Rock. His visit is the shortest presidential visit to the city, to date.

In this day of touchdowns at airports by politicians on the political stump, it is interesting to note that the shortest visit was made on a train. It was a true “whistle stop” visit.

Taft’s train arrived at Union Station (then a new building, it burned in 1920 and was subsequently replaced by the one currently standing on that site) in Little Rock to a crowd of 15,000.

President Taft stepped from the train, made brief remarks in a hoarse voice that few heard, stepped back onto the train and departed.

That same day he spoke in Texarkana and Arkadelphia. He was on his way to Helena to speak at a ceremony.
