Science for the Animal-Obsessed is focus of tonight’s Museum of Discovery Science After Dark

Then there has never been a Science After Dark at Museum of Discovery more perfect for you! Meet cute and cuddly animals from Museum of Discovery, Heifer, C.A.R.E. and more!

The Little Rock Zoo is co-presenting this month’s Science After Dark and will be bringing PENGUINS!!!

The Heifer Village and Urban Farm will be bringing Rocky and Tina, Nigerian dwarf goats; Sunshine, the miniature cow; and a silkie chicken.

The Museum is reducing Science After Dark admission to $5 this month only with any amount provided beyond $5 going to
CARE – Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals

Science After Dark is for ages 21 and up. Food, beer and cocktails will also be sold by our sponsors Fassler Hall Little Rock, Rock Town Distillery and Stone’s Throw Brewing

Since the month of February is devoted to love, the Museum of Discovery is devoting a Science After Dark to it – but one can’t talk about love without exploring the science of sex. They will look at attraction and reproduction in humans and the animal kingdom.

Perhaps the best part? Exploring aphrodisiacs! And what is the world’s favorite aphrodisiac? CHOCOLATE! We’ll learn about making chocolate and pairing chocolate all while sampling chocolate with some of the best chocolatiers around!

Science After Dark is for adults 21 and up. Tickets are $10 or free for members. You will be able to purchase food, cocktails and beer from the sponsors.  Those presenting sponsors are Fassler Hall Little Rock and Dust Bowl Lanes & Lounge Little Rock and sponsors Rock Town Distillery and Stone’s Throw Brewing

2019 Museum of Discovery Science After Dark starts with Troopers vs. Trekkies

It’s a new year and the Museum of Discovery is stirring the pot by hosting an event that addresses one of the greatest arguments of all time – an argument that has allies in every corner of the galaxy.

On Thursday, January 31 from 6pm to 9pm, come to the Museum of Discovery for their first Science After Dark of 2019 and take part in “Troopers vs. Trekkies”

Whether you’re boldly going where no man has gone before or you’re already in a galaxy far, far away, you’ve probably heard the age-old debate about which of science fiction’s two biggest franchises is better.

Is it Star Wars?

Is it Star Trek?

Is the Museum crazy for doing this?

Science After Dark is for ages 21 and up. Tickets are $10 or free for members.

The 2019 presenting sponsor is Fassler Hall.  Sponsors are Stone’s Throw Brewing and Rock Town Distillery.

Who says the Museum of Discovery is only for kids?!? Not the hundreds of 21-and-older science-and-fun lovers who attend Science After Dark each month. Because, science is fun … at any age! Science After Dark provides visitors the opportunity to have fun and learn about science in a unique setting. Museum educators pick a science-related topic and build an entertaining, interactive evening around it. You never know what will sprout, pop, fizzle, or glow. We invite you to discover the science of having fun. Museum partners are there to serve pizza, and a full bar from craft beer to wine to cocktails is available. And beyond the themed activities each month, Science After Dark admission ($10, free for members) includes access to all museum galleries and our 90-plus hands-on, interactive exhibits.

LR Culture Vulture turns 7

The Little Rock Culture Vulture debuted on Saturday, October 1, 2011, to kick off Arts & Humanities Month.

The first feature was on the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, which was kicking off its 2011-2012 season that evening.  The program consisted of Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 in A, Op. 90, Rossini’s, Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers, Puccini’s Chrysanthemums and Respighi’s Pines of Rome.  In addition to the orchestra musicians, there was an organ on stage for this concert.

Since then, there have been 10,107 persons/places/things “tagged” in the blog.  This is the 3,773rd entry. (The symmetry to the number is purely coincidental–or is it?)  It has been viewed over 288,600 times, and over 400 readers have made comments.  It is apparently also a reference on Wikipedia.

Science After Dark: Wine & Chocolate – tonight at the Museum of Discovery

How does the Museum of Discovery’s monthly Science After Dark top itself?  What do people love more than STAR WARS? The answer is, of course, Wine and Chocolate!

Tonight from 6pm until 9pm, Science After Dark focuses on Wine and Chocolate.

Explore fermentation, the science of making chocolate and discover the process of pairing the two!
You must be at least 21 years of age to attend.
Admission is $5
Bring cash for beer from Stone’s Throw Brewing and beer, cocktails and pizza from Damgoode Pies River Market.

Star Wars Science tonight at Museum of Discovery, or “Light Sabres and Beer, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?”

MOD Dark Star WarsEach month the Museum of Discovery hosts “Science after Dark” for adults aged 21 and up.  This month’s theme is “Star Wars Science.”

Here are some of the things you can expect:
-Making finger light sabres

-Fusing plastic to make Darth Vader capes

-Geeking out with Star Wars science facts, fun, and..well, it’s Star Wars!!!!!!

Don’t forget to bring cash for refreshments from Stone’s Throw Brewing and Damgoode Pies.

The program runs from 6pm to 9pm. Cost is $5, FREE for museum members. (Go ahead and get a membership, it will more than pay for itself within a year!)

The Science of Dreams and Nightmares at Museum of Discovery’s Science after Dark tonight

MOD Dark DreamsEach month the Museum of Discovery hosts “Science after Dark” for adults aged 21 and up.  This month’s theme is “Science of Dreams and Nightmares.”

Here are some of the things you can expect:
-Activities/info about sleep paralysis and lucid dreaming
-Dream interpretation
-Creepy crawly animals (to inflict nightmares)
-Sensory deprivation
– Counting (or shooting) sheep (zombie sheep)
– Adult face painting (zombie/blood/warts)

Don’t forget to bring cash for refreshments from Stone’s Throw Brewing, Damgoode Pies and Juanita’s

The program runs from 6pm to 9pm. Cost is $5, FREE for museum members. (Go ahead and get a membership, it will more than pay for itself within a year!)

This will be the final Science after Dark of 2015.  But look for more events in 2016!
